Role-Playing Guide/Standards

So, for starters, let me re-introduce you to your friend- the thesaurus. Yes, it is your friend! Enter a simple word, like ‘ happy’, and turn it into a more creative word, like ‘joyous’, ‘merry’, or ‘zealous’. Because we have the thesaurus, you seriously have no excuse to use a word like ‘happy’ while role-playing unless you’re an illiterate cat (kit, loner, etc).
Thoughts are expressed using italics. Don’t use /thought/ or *thought*!
Speech is expressed using bold. Don’t use /speech/ or *speech*!
Actions are simply expressed using nothing. Don’t use <action> or ^action^!
Laughter, on this site, is expressed like this: mrreow. You can elongate some of the letters, like mmmrrreow, if you’re like. Just nothing too ridiculous.
Please try and keep the spelling and punctuation correct. Absolutely no l33t! It annoys the rest of us a bit.
Here's a bunch of ways to say "said".
On Khaos, OOC (out of character) chatter is looked down upon. If at times, it seems wise to use it, do so.
Stick to third character here. That means you can’t say “I was walking down the street, and…”, or “You walk down the street, and…”. You should say “Tawnypelt was walking down the street, and…”.
Mainly try to stick to past tense. Not “I am going…” or “I will go…”. Use “I went…” unless you’re speaking! Speaking-wise, any tense is okay, as long as it fits the context of the situation!
Be realistic. Your cat can’t just go hunting for a moment then come back with 15 squirrels and 3 huge crows! The more realistic it is, the more interesting it gets.
No god-modding! That means making an overpowered character or disrupting game play with an overpowered character, better described as player invulnerability. Your cat simply can’ be the best swimmer, runner, and hunter in all of the clans! Your cat needs pros and cons. the last letter is r. please make sure you abide by the rules!
Don’t control other people’s characters! Just because you want your cat to win the fight, you can’t just write, “Weakpaw killed Ferociousclaw!”. In this battle, Ferociousclaw probably would have won. Again, be realistic. Decide in PMs which character is going to win the fight, or if it’s a draw. If you disagree, contact a staff member who will look at both cat’s profiles and descriptions and decide for you.
Wait your turn! In a two person roleplay, it is best to post, then wait for the other person to reply. In a three player thread, it is polite to let everyone get a turn before you post again.
Never, ever, ever write a one-liner post on a roleplay. This is strictly forbidden, as Khaos is an intermediate-advanced literate roleplay.
Be descriptive! Don’t just say, “Nightstar went and sat on the highrock”. What clan territory is Nightstar in? What does it look like now? Is the moon shining on Nightstar’s fur or is the sun glinting and warming on his fur? What does e look like right now? Did he bound up to the highrock or did he drag himself there? How was Nightstar feeling? What was he thinking? Where had he just been? What does the highrock look like? Take every aspect of the scene and make a description of it! “Nightstar yawned, and stumbled out of his den. The strong scent of dew lingered in the Thunderclan camp, and the morning patrol had just come back in. He could see a queen and her two kits tumbling in the freshly laid out moss near the elders den, a warrior eating a shrew, and a couple apprentices fooling around. Looking up at the highrock, he marveled at how it never changed. Through battle, sadness, and good times, the highrock always looked the same. This was the opposite of the ThunderClan cats themselves. New kits were born, warriors named, and new apprentices. Remembering his own warrior ceremony, Nightstar shook his head, giving a silent mrreow. Seeing the quickly populated clearing, he leapt up to the top of the highrock, and began the ancient call of a clan meeting. All cats old enough….”. See how much better that was? You don’t have to make it so detailed, but I’m sure you get the point.
